Champions!

In our hearts and minds, both teams that played in the 5-6th grade volleyball finals game were winners. The Golden Bears finished 2nd in the game to their worthy opponents, the Tigers.

It was not the typical relaxing Saturday morning, where one could ease into the day with a quiet cup of coffee and the paper. It was nerve-wracking, exciting, back-and-forth, scrappy volleyball play, with loads of loud cheering excitement. Each point, regardless of what happened in play, whether the girls made a good hit, served but came up short of the net, hustled to back each other up and bumped the second hit over the net, tried to return but the hit went wide, squeaked a hit just tipping over the edge of the net, etc. etc., something was evident to me. Both sets of coaches were happy!! They had big SMILES on their faces and gave a steady stream of encouragement. And the girls supported each other, giving out "nice job" and "good try" and high fives all over the place.

Nice season, girls!!

Golden Bears x 2!!

Both A & S play volleyball in their respective leagues. Amazingly, they were placed on teams with the same name and tshirts the same color!! Golden Bears.

For A's team, a couple of the girls were buddies, but for the most part the girls got to know each other through the season. The high school coaches showed a great amount of enthusiasm, and kept them on their toes the whole season. Alas, they lost in the first playoff game.S's team from the get-go was very very enthusiastic. The first game, they were practicing cheers. Yet, the coaches (again high school seniors) seemed pretty mellow. Well, most of the time. This team is still playing, and regardless of the outcome, they are a blast to watch, and it is obvious that they are having a great time.
