I am really frustrated. Not only am I hobbling around with a gimpy sprained ankle, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to trap this mouse. ERRRGGG.
We've got traps downstairs, laden with luscious peanut butter. The kids keep having mouse sightings. But no mouse in trap.
I'll get you yet, Scooter!

So Frustrated

What you need is a better mouse trap. ;)
Simple solution, if I may lend a hand. Get a 5 gallon pail, drill 2 holes, across from eachother near the top of the pail.
Slide a metal rod through one hole in the pail, add an empty spool of thread onto the rod, them push the rod out the other hole of the pail.
The idea is so the empty spool of thread is cenetered on the rod and able to spin freely. Load the outside of the empty spool of thread with peanut butter.
Next, fill the pail about 1/4 to 1/3 full of water. Add a ramp using a piece of wood on ech side where the metal rod enters and exits the 5 gallon pail.
The idea here is the mouse smells the peanut butter, runs up the ramp to investigate the source of the peanutty delicacy.
said mouse scurried across the metal rod to the empty spool of thread loaded with peanut butter. He then tries to eat the tasty peanutbuttery goodness, but it spins, he can;t hold on, then sploosh! Into the water below he falls. Too high for him to leap out. And without a life jacket, he drowns.
If this is too gruesome for you, (as it is for my sister-in-law), forget the water, add something soft in the bottom of the pail. This will dampen his fall. Then you can release the furry beast outdoors away from the house.
However, he may thank you by wintering once again in yor basement. Hope your ankle heals quickly.
Dear Dusty-
Oh yes that does seem a bit gruesome. I might try option 2 if I had the time and inclination. Thanks for your words of advice.
But alas, the poor mouse is dead!
